A Weekend in Mornington Peninsula

Before the lockdowns and all of the COVID madness we spent a weekend away in Mornington Peninsula. My incredibly talented boyfriend had a 2 writing residency in Dromana and I distracted him from writing for a few days.

Mornington Peninsula is one of my favourite (if not the favourite) spots in Victoria. Gorgeous, small town cozy, full of cute little cafes, vineyards and restaurants, with lots of beautiful hikes and all of the beaches are only a short drive away.
The photos above we taken against the beautiful backdrop of the bay whilst exploring the historic Quarantine Station (before we truly knew the meaning of quarantine).

I spent the bulk of the weekend sitting on the balcony watching the bay glitter in the distance, the outline of Melbourne fade in and out of focus depending on the weather and listening to birds (I don’t know if I even remember what birds sound like after 7 months in lockdown!) while sipping on tea or wine.

We went for long drives — from one side of the peninsula to the other — the contrast between the inside and the outside of the bay is wonderful fun to experience. The Cape Shack walk, Sorrento Beach and Point Leo beach where my favourites. Looking at this photos now makes me remember the amazing feeling of laying on warm sand.

I never posted this posted, as it just did not seem right when we were in lockdown, but now I am posting as I hope to encourage you to book you little giveaway into regional Victoria — it’s always worthwhile (literally a breath of fresh air after city life), there are options for anything budget and it is a much needed boots to the regional economy.
