Why Now is the Perfect Time to Join the Slow Beauty Movement

By now we’ve all heard of slow fashion, but here is another movement to get excited about — slow beauty. If you, like me, are stuck at home for the foreseeable future (the remaining 4 weeks of the Melbourne lockdown) and are looking for at home remedies for bettering yourself, this might just be the perfect movement for you to get into.

So what is slow beauty?
Slow beauty is all about giving up treatments and products that promise fast results and use harsh ingredients or invasive treatments to get there—opting for natural, often home made products and treatments as well, as making lifestyle changes. The best part is that a lot of these changes can be implemented without spending a lot of money or the need to leave your house. Here are some easy ways to incorporate slow beauty into your daily routine.
Use gentle skincare
The first step here is to switch out products in your beauty cabinet that have harsh chemical ingredients to those with more natural and organic ones. This is super easy, as there are just so many incredible brands that have put a lot of research into creating the best organic products. Some of my favourite Australain organic beauty brands are Salt by Hendrix, Grown Alchemist, Inika, Eco Tan and Hunter Lab among so many others.
It is also worth researching some easy and super budget friendly home made treatments suited to you skin and hair needs — like a coconut oil mask for your hair or an avocado facial.
Opt for natural beauty
We have all had a lot of fun with fake nails, eyelash extensions, tattoed eyebrows and an injection here and there, but not having access to all of that makes you realise that natural can look just as polished and sophisticated if not more so. Plus this will save you a ton of money!
For me, another massive quarantine discovery has been that I no longer feel like have to wear make up every day. Now even if I am wearing make up I prefer to wear less, opting for the no make up make up look instead.
Work on glowing from the inside
Lockdown is the perfect time to implement some lifestyle changes that will make you glow from the inside: exercising more (I have definitely gone on more walks in lockdown than I have in years), trying out meditation as a way to deal with my anxiety, working on perfect my diet (finally blending those greens in my smoothies), maintaining my water intake and sticking to consistently taking my supplements. Having that extra time at home makes implementing these changes into your life that little bit easer.
Although I’m not willing to give up all of my ”fast beauty” favourites (nothing will make me give up my go to red lip look + laser treatments saved my skin from pigmentation) I’m incredibly excited to implement some changes into my daily routine.
